ACTIVITIES UPDATES
International Rover Week 2012 – for those aged between 18 and 30.
From 12th to 18th August.
What can you expect?
For around 30 years Greater London North has run a hiking competition against the clock each February in the Chiltern Hills, and for many of those years, competitors from Harrow & Wealdstone have taken part. Initially it was a 50 mile Challenge open to members of the Scout and Guide movements of Venture Scout age and over. Supported by Air Cadet radio net and St John’s Ambulance it has an entry of 100 teams competing over a different course each year.
Congratulations to The Spartans, one of the teams from Harrow ESU who won the 30Km competition in the Southern 50 hiking competition on 11th February. Held on the coldest weekend in the 33 year history of the competition, run by Greater London North County over three different courses in the Chilterns. They battled snow & ice to finish 30Km in 6hours and 59 minutes.
More details can be found in the Report at the Southern 50 website
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games are getting closer
I attended a Gamesmaker Volunteer training session at Wembley in February (because I am working for one of the Olympic Contractors) and one of the first people I saw was Deep from Greenford District; I think Steve Caddick from TGU is a Games Maker- is anyone else from GLMW involved?
Did you know that for the last three days before the Opening Ceremony that the Olympic Torch relay crosses the GLMW - more details on the route when we know more:
Following the great success of our previous expeditions, we’re off to Switzerland in 2013 when Kandersteg is our destination once again. Located high in the Bernese Oberland, Kandersteg hosts the world’s only International Scout Centre. This unique Centre set amidst spectacular scenery, close to Interlaken and Bern, offers some amazing opportunities for your young people.
Registration for the expedition is now open, the registration form for the expedition is available online here. There is lots more information available on the main expedition page, or the registration pages.
