Safety Training

Who needs this course?

As an adult in GLMW we all have the responsibility to ensure we have adequate training and that safeguards are in place to promote the safety and well-being of young people and other adult volunteers. The Safety Training course is available to all adult volunteers in any role and will promote safety in all aspects of Scouting including; Section meetings, activities and residential experiences

What does the course cover?

This course builds on the learning covered in Module 1 and will support adults to learn how to ensure we deliver safe scouting to everyone. The course is delivered in a group format which enables participants to share practice, discuss concerns and learn from one another in a safe learning environment. The course covers many areas including:

Adult Training

In GLMW we provide support for adults across the county and beyond, whether you are in the first stage of your leadership or have a few more years of experience.

The learning takes place in a friendly group based atmosphere and can be broadly split into the following areas:

Safeguarding Training

Who needs this course?

As an adult  in Scouting we have the privilege of supporting young people to become valued, empowered and proud.

We also have a responsibility to keep our young people safe. However the risks are changing all the time so it’s important that as adults in Scouting we take the time to think about how we can best keep young people and ourselves safe.

Why should I do this learning?

Safeguarding training will give you the opportunity to explore how we promote the wellbeing of young people in Scouting. By using Scouting methods like small group work and learning by doing, the training seeks to give you both the knowledge on the wider issues and concerns surrounding child protection but also gives you the opportunity to focus on scouting specific scenarios. It gives learners the knowledge and skills to feel confident in their safeguarding responsibilities.

Being safe online

As  Volunteers in a youth focussed organisation we do everything we can to challenge and develop our young people. We also take every precaution to keep them safe during activities whether this is going through the Green Cross Code with Beaver Scouts or a mountain first aid course at Explorers.

Scouting is about helping young people build confidence and lifelong skills. It does this by adults and young people working in partnership, learning by doing through a structure framework of activities  and experiences. Whether we are climbing a mountain or using social media, we should give young people the tools to 'be prepared’.

We now live in a digital age, and much of communication and sharing of information is done electronically from texting and emails to different social media. We have a responsibility as leaders to understand the opportunities and the risks of being online and to help each other to be safe online.
