Safeguarding Training B

Who needs it?

The new Safeguarding training must be completed before your review for your adult appointment. This means that if you are a Leader, an Assistant Leader, a Manager (GSLs/DCs etc) or a Supporter (ADC etc), you will need to complete the new training before the date of your next review.  If you are a Section Assistant then you will also need to complete this training before your review too.

Executive Committee members do not need to attend, however, they may find it beneficial.

The Safeguarding courses are open to all adults in Scouting.

Why do I need this Scouting course?

We know that many adults in Scouting will have received some Safeguarding training from other organisations or through work, however, this event focuses on Scout Policies and Scouting situations which will not be covered elsewhere.

What is Adult Training?

Explanation of the Scheme

Once an adult has been recruited, agreed their job description with their line manager (Section Leader or GSL) and after the initial enquiry has been satisfactorily returned by Headquarters, a Provisional Appointment Certificate is issued by the Appointments Sub Committee. This allows the adult to begin their role in Scouting.  At the same time as the Provisional Appointment is made the Leader is given a copy of the Adults Personal File which will help them to put together a personal learning plan and also consists of a workbook for them to progress their development.

During the provisional appointment of 5 months the Leader will be asked to attend the Appointments Sub Committee.  This body approves the appointment of adults locally. Also during this time, the full DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check will take place and any references returned to the District Secretary for the Appointments Sub Committee.
