Jim Riordan

Jim Riordan died in October 2005 following an illness lasting several months.

His involvement in Scouting began by ferrying members of his son's Troop to camps and other events, then by giving much support to his wife Jean in her role as District Commissioner of Uxbridge. He was Chairman of the Chalfont Management Committee from 1987 until 1994 during which time many positive improvements were effected. He became a member of the County Executive in 1988 and became County Chairman in 1989. Under his very direct Chairmanship he guided us towards the 21st Century and a more business like approach, bringing to that role the benefit of his wide and very successful business experience, having been the Managing Director of some well-known companies.

Having always vowed that he would retire early, he stood down as County Chairman in 1992 and as Chalfont Chairman in 1994 in preparation for his move to Devon in 1997 and which gave him and Jean many happy years and memories. Knowing him well I am sure one of his last comments would have been “How careless of GLMW in losing three Vice Presidents in such a short space of time!”
