John Brooke

John joined the 3rd Chiswick Scout Group as soon as he moved to London from Brighton in 1944. Within two years he was a First Class Scout, and after the Rovers in 1950 he became Assistant Scout Master. During a lifetime devoted to Scouting, he was awarded the Medal of Merit and Bar, Silver Acorn, and in 1991 the Silver Wolf. He was also District Commissioner, County Commissioner, then County Chairman, Chairman of the PACCAR Chalfont Heights Camp Site and Chairman of the Friends of Chalfont.

In 2010. he received recognition of his 60 years of service, during which he never once lost sight of the aims of the movement. Somehow whilst doing all of this, he found the time to raise and support a family that he cherished.
More recently, he campaigned tirelessly for Macmillan Cancer Nurses, raising tens of thousands of pounds. It was fitting that he should receive the loving care of Macmillan nurses during his last days.
