Les Beckwith

Sadly Les Beckwith died peacefully in a local Hospice, on Monday, 21st November 2011 following a long illness.

Les was a Senior Scout Master with 1st Hatch End, then Group Scout Master, which he relinquished upon a move to Bath, and he then became Group Scout Master again upon his return to Hatch End.

He will be remembered with great affection, having given many years excellent service to both our Group and Scouting in general. Shortly after his return from Bath, as Group Scout Master he was one of the first on the scene when the wooden Scout Hut burnt down on 11th December 1964, and he guided and encouraged all the various parts of the Group, enabling the continuance of all the sections under very difficult conditions, first utilising the Rover Den for meetings, which was hopelessly cramped, and then the empty old Woodridings School, until the new Headquarters was completed in April 1967.

His Funeral was held at St. Paul’s Church, Hunton Bridge, near Kings Langley.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara, Gavin, Christine and their families.
