This event is open to all sections. Come and try the County Orienteering competition at PACCAR on March 4th, 2012. It’s a great opportunity for anyone doing their DofE Bronze, Silver or Gold to practice their navigation techniques. For Beavers and Cubs, leaders can walk around the course with teams. For Scouts, this will help you towards the Orienteering Badge. To celebrate the launch of their new orienteering map and working together with the GLMW County Hill Walking Team, this is the inaugural, annual orienteering competition at PACCAR.
Orienteering involves navigating your way using a map and a compass around a course marked with red and white control points and patterned marker punches for you to record your progress on a card. Individuals or small groups running together set off at short time intervals and try to cover their course and get back to the finish in the fastest time.
Open to everyone with races from 3k to 10k, for under-10’s, 10-14’s, 14-16’s, 16-18’s, 18-25’s and 25+, there will be group and individual trophies available. And, given the age ranges on offer, even the leaders can have a go at showing off their navigation skills. So if you or your group, troop, pack or unit fancy a crack at the title then get in touch with the team at PACCAR (01753 882640) and reserve yourself a space. Anyone camping at PACCAR for that weekend will be able to get concessionary rates for the competitions if they enter the races and book a site at the same time. Talk to the PACCAR Team to organise a place along with your site.
Start times will kick off at 10:00am and run through the day with a latest finish expected to be around 3:30pm. There will be refreshments and other attractions on-site for the day too. Any questions, drop me an e-mail or contact the PACCAR team today…..
