Climbing Course – Artificial Top Rope Leader Course (with options)

About the Course

This weekend will accommodate training, assessments, and refreshers for anyone who feels rusty.

This program is for leaders wishing to take groups climbing on artificial surfaces such as indoor or outdoor climbing walls. The course covers the syllabus outlined for Artificial Top Rope Leaders on the Scout website for Climbing and Abseiling (FS120452)

The full course consists of two days of practical Leader Training, followed by a consolidation period following which participants can attend a one-day or two-day Assessment depending on personal competence and log book experience.

The course is aimed at the following:

  • Adults with no experience and are keen to work toward gaining a Scout permit.
  • Adults with basic experience.
  • Adults with medium to strong experience.
  • Expired permit holders who want to renew a permit.
  • Existing permit holders who want or need a refresher.
  • Permit holders who would like to add abseiling to an existing permit.
  • Upgrade to your existing permit. For example leader to supervisor.

Depending on your needs, you may be required to attend either one or two days of the weekend course.

The course will cover:

Group management, risk and safety, belaying, abseiling, instructing, warm-up, climbing games and movement, emergencies, equipment and leader responsibilities. At the end of the course, successful participants will receive a full or restricted permit, depending on their level of skills and experience.

    • Saturday, 13th April – Brunel University Climbing Wall, Uxbridge
    • Sunday, 14th April – PACCAR Campsite, Chalfont
  • Cost:  The cost of the course depends on the training required:
    • Full training course (two days): £30
    • One-day refresher or assessment for existing permit holders: £21

Assessments and refreshers may be done over one or two days depending on individual experience.
