Peak District Hillwalking Weekend for Adult Scout Members

Between: 20th September 2024 - 22nd September 2024 Location: Peak District Sections: Scout Network, Adult Volunteer

This trip is to the beautiful Peak District over the weekend of 20th to 22nd September.

**Update, 4th September:**
Please be aware that bookings will close two weeks before the event, at the end of Friday, 6th September. Due to administrative requirements and the Scout Nights Away Notification (NAN) process, we will not be able to accept any bookings after this date.

The hill walking weekends are friendly and social, run by experienced and qualified Scouters, including members of the GLMW Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) scheme team.

New to hillwalking or looking to gain a permit, this weekend is designed to cater for all comers with a basic level of fitness.

The UK’s first of 15 national parks, made up of the Dark Peak, White Peak and South West Peak, the Peak District is one of the UK’s most visited national parks spanning around 555 square miles. First farmed for sheep, cattle and crops 6,000 years ago.

A third of the national park is designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) where important plants, wildlife and geology should be protected.

The Old Nags Head pub in Edale is the start of the Pennine Way, a 269 miles (430 km) trek ending at the Border Hotel, Kirk Yetholm, Scotland.

Is this for me?

Absolutely!  All you need is a basic level of fitness and hiking boots.
Unsure of your fitness? Contact us using the form further down the page.

This trip is ideal for those who may want a skills refresher, to learn something new, are a seasoned pro, or just want to experience a nice weekend with good company in the British hills.

For those who are keen to gain or practice map, compass and other skills. We offer skills coaching from basic to advanced to enable you to gain the skills required for the UK hills, used locally to your Scout hut and should you wish, help you to prepare for assessment to gain a hillwalking Terrain 1 or 2 permit.  The weekend can also be used for testing your current skills, enabling you to build an experience of quality mountain days for your logbook.

Attendees from new leaders, young leaders (18+), and the more experienced also committee members are all very welcome!
