Some of you may have seen the refurbished air rifle range at PACCAR. The range now offers a six lane facility, including wheelchair access, which can operate at both the 6 yards and 10 metres competition standards.

We are offering Sunday afternoon open sessions for individual Scouts and Explorers who would like to improve their shooting skills and also as a “taster” for Scouts and Explorers people who might be interested in joining a future National Small Bore Rifle Association young person air rifle shooting course.

The next open / taster sessions is: Sunday 16th July (15:00 to 17:00)

The cost is £3 per session payable on the day. Participants will need to bring a Scout shooting permission form signed by their parent or guardian. Uniform is not required.

Starting in September, we will be running a National Small Bore Rifle Association Youth Proficiency Scheme Award course for Scouts and Explorers. This 8 week course will run on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.00pm for Scouts and Explorers who already have some basic shooting experience. The cost for the 8 week course is £40per person. The course will start on Thursday 21 September. Again, participants will need to bring a Scout shooting permission form signed by their parent or guardian to cover the duration of the course. Uniform is not required.

All participants who complete the course will gain the YPS Award and additionally Scouts will be awarded the Master at Arms activity badge.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme recognises marksmanship as a skill and partipcants could use the course as a starting point, combined with continuing regular participation and progress for the required period (as dependent on the level of award).

As well as young people, we would like to recruit some adults holding a Scout Air Rifle permit to help run the sessions and gain experience for their log books.

If you have Scouts or Explorers interested in joining for a taster session and / or taking the course, or you hold an Air Rifle permit and would like to get involved, please contact Jan Vanderplank (01753 882640 or email jan@chalfont.org). Places for the sessions are limited so please book early to ensure a place.
