We are making some changes in the organisation of our International Activities in GLMW.

After many years of being our centre of information for all things International, Rex Smith has decided to step down from his role as International Adviser for the County. Over the years, Rex has been involved in every one of our Kandersteg trips among many others, he has been our ACC(I) and a fantastic connection between the County and the Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) in Switzerland. For all of the work he has put in to these roles we are very grateful and will miss his detailed input on many occasions. I’m sure that you will join me in thanking him for all of his great work.

I am pleased to be able to tell you that Keyur Patel has agreed to take on the role of ACC (International) for GLMW. At the UK national level Keyur is the lead organiser for the UK Working Party to Kandersteg and is absolutely committed to promoting international experiences in Scouting for all of our participants. Some of you will know him in the County as Kiwi. He has been part of GLMW as a Cub, a Scout, Venture Scout where he gained his Queen Scout Award and Leader.

Kiwi volunteered as a “Pinkie” at KISC for three months in Summer 2004, giving him an amazing chance to see International Scouting happening on a daily basis. He’s been back several times as a helper since then. We’re already in discussion about providing some new and exciting international opportunities at home and abroad for the Young People, Young Adults and Leaders in our County.

We are in the process of appointing a new International Adviser to help Kiwi with the Travelling Abroad Administration process and building an international team to work on a variety of new projects for GLMW. Kiwi will update you about them in the next weeks and months. In the meantime if you have any International questions, queries or suggestions please give him a shout at keyurpatel@glmwscouts.org.uk.
