Air Rifle Shooting

Air Rifle shooting falls outside the Scout Adventurous Activity permit scheme. Those leading shooting events are required to hold a suitable permit issued by one of the shooting governing bodies. Details of acceptable qualifications and additional information can be found on the HQ website here

It should be noted that there are separate qualifications for Rifles and Pistols, a Rifle permit holder cannot run a Pistol session and vice versa.

Periodically Air Rifle shooting training courses are held at PACCAR for the crew. Any spare places are offered across the County. Additionally, subject to demand, additional courses can be arranged to be run at PACCAR or a local ranges. Please contact the County advisor for details or to register interest for a course.

As Air Rifle shooting falls outside of the Scout Adventurous Permit scheme, the qualification is not recorded on Compass.

Renewal of a qualification is via the governing body e.g. the National Smallbore Rifle Association (NSRA). Applicants should contact the NSRA and they will be advised of the renewal process and fee.

The NRSA issue a logbook to record shooting sessions which may be required as evidence of practical experience at renewal.
