Hillwalking

Do you want to get away into the hills? Do you want to increase your confidence in leading scouts in the mountains? Do you want to get a hillwalking permit to take your Explorers or Scouts on more exciting trips?

Greater London Middlesex West (GLMW) Hill Walking team offers adventure and training in the hills and mountains of the UK to leaders and network members of the County.

Whether you are new to the hills, or a veteran looking for permit renewal or an excuse to get out into the hills, our programme offers something for you. Built around regular weekend trips to some of the best hill and mountain locations in the UK, the programme develops personal skills for leading safe and successful adventures in the wild. A Regular weekend trips give the opportunity for everyone to train and acquire the skills they will need to complete an assessment.

If you are interested in gaining a Scout Hillwalking permit, please refer to the separate section on assessments which provides details on the process. Weekend assessments are normally only undertaken by prior agreement with one of our assessors, including submission of a logbook to evidence at least 20 – 30 days of experience in the hills.

Visit the Events page, selecting ‘Adult Volunteer’ from the list box for more information on our forthcoming trips.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
